Shops and markets to reopen from May 10

After a closure for more than one month due to coronavirus outbreak, country’s shops and shopping malls will be reopened from May 10 ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a press release, Commerce Ministry today said, the shops and markets can be kept open from 10am to 4pm daily following the health guidelines.

According to a  gazette notification, issued today, shopping centers and malls must have arrangements for hand washing and sanitisers during trading hours. Vehicles entering shopping malls have to be disinfected too.

Earlier on Monday, the health directorate reported  688 new cases of coronavirus, increasing the total number to 10,143. Meanwhile the death toll from the virus now stands at 182.

And Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government has directed to open haat-bazars (markets) and shops so the people do not face any problem to have iftar and sehri and they can buy goods as the Eid-ul-Fitr is ahead.

The prime minister further said, “To keep the wheels of the economy running, the government has also instructed to reopen small and medium industries across the country by keeping the people protected and giving attention to their health.”

The shopping malls, shops and markets were closed from March 25 to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
