Pranto Rony: A preparatory workshop was organized in the hill town of ‘Rangamati’ to counter natural calamities, with the sad memories of the horror of a year ago.
The workshop was held in the conference room of Rangamati district administration on Thursday morning. Various public and private sector officials, development workers, social organization leaders, civil society representatives and media workers participate in the workshop.

At the workshop, the speakers said that special preparations should be made to ensure that the worst disaster in Rangamati occurred in the past year, if there is more disaster in the future, special preparation will be made. Public awareness campaigns will be organized to tackle disaster, including prevention of mountains and planting of trees.
They also said that after the disaster, adequate rescue workers and necessary equipment should be stored. Especially the trees in the mountainous areas have to be planted. Besides, effective steps should be taken to stop tree de-addiction.
It is to be noted that at least 120 people were killed in a horrific hillside in Rangamati district town on June 12, Among them, there were also five army officers and officials involved in the rescue operation.
