After 32 days of abduction from Kutukchori of Rangamati Monty Chakma and Doyasona Chakma, two UPDF abducted leaders were released.
UPDF leader Mikel Chakma and Subhash Chakma, elder brother of abducted Monty Chakma confirms their release.
Mikel Chakma said that they were released from APBN School gate on Thursday night at around 8 pm in the Khagrachari. He also ensured that they had to be handed over to their families. After leaving, they left the Khagrachari with their guardians on the way to home.
The UPDF leader said that the incident was disrespectful.
Niran Chakma, the UPDF’s publicity and publication division, also confirmed the matter. He said that they were released to the family and the local leaders at 8 pm and he did not want to comment anything at that moment.
Subhash Chakma, elder brother of Monty Chakma said, “It is confirmed that both of them have been handed over to their parents and their representatives. But I do not want to talk about this until they reach home, details will be given in the morning”.
Asked about the authenticity of the incident to Rangamati Police Superintendent Alamgir Kabir, he said, “We got the news through you, we are investigating this matter.”
Two leaders of the Hill Women Federation, Monty Chakma and Dasasona Chakma, a joint organization of United Nations People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), a group of Pahari groups demanding full autonomy for the hill was abducted from the Kutukchori area of Rangamati on 18 March.
On March 18, 32 days before the city’s Rangamati District, Katiukchari area was hijacked by two leaders of the Hill Women Federation, Monty Chakma and Dasasona Chakma, a joint organization of United Nations People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), a group of Pahari groups demanding full autonomy for the hill. After the abduction, the district organizer of the organization, Sakal Chakma, ensure the abduction news through circulate a press release to the media.
UPDF said in that statement, “, on March 18, terrorists opened fire on the house of Dharma Singh Chakma, leader of the democratic youth forum, a few hundred yards away from the Khagrachari-Rangamati road. In this, he was shot and injured. The miscreants torched a mass of students and kidnapped Monty Chakma, general secretary of the Hill Women Federation and central member of the Boko Haram Styling, Daasona Chakma, and took away the episode of the Khagrachari-Rangamati road along the residential Buddhist temple in the adjacent jungle”.
UPDF leader said the attack was cowardly and disrespectful and said the government is unable to deal UPDF for that they want to stop their emergence by using armed terrorists.
Although the UPDF has claimed UPDF (Democratic) organization for this abduction, but the UPDF (Democratic) had been denied the allegation.
